Trip to Carpentras - 11th November 2016

One of the many fountains in Carpentras

This morning we travelled to Carpentras, where there is a market each Friday, which is one of the largest in the area. It dominates the old town and spills over into the surrounding roads. Like the Vaison-La-Romain market, there is a wide variation of produce for sale including fruit and vegetables, clothing and jewellery. We recognised several of the stalls from the Vaison-La-Romain market, so I guess that many stalls work most days on a market circuit.

Carpentras is a large town and more impressive than Orange, which we visited a few days ago. One of the highlights was the Jouvard Patissier, where we enjoyed hot chocolate, tea, and apple and lemon turnovers. Not of a nature to restrain ourselves, we returned after our walk to take home a chocolate eclair and prauline slice. Delicious! They have a wonderful selection of cakes, pastries, merringues, savoury tarts and glacee fruits. Established in 1948, they have branches in the area and one in Tokyo. They are open every day and except the 1st January from 9:15am to 7:00pm. Definitely worth more visits.
