George at eight weeks

George at five weeks at the farm

After our much loved dog, Magnus, died in January we decided that we would wait until the end of the year before acquirung a new dog. We also decided that it would be big dog and that we would avoid dog that shed fur.

In the meantime, unknown to the owners on a farm in Devon, a stud Golden Retriever and the farm guard dog, a German Shepherd got together. The result was a litter of ten Golden Shepherds or Goldi-Sheps. This isn't an established cross breed such as a Cavapoo or Labradoodle, but it should be.

When Pauline saw the dogs advertised for sale on a web site for breeders durung the coming week-end, a quick decision was made to see visit the farm to see them - afterall it was only four hours drive there...and four hours back. That Saturday morning, we set off, but by the time we arrived at lunchtime three puppies, who were only five weeks old, had been sold. There were such beautiful and strking dogs, there was no way that we would leave without choosing a dog, to be picked up in three weeks after their first set of vaccinations.

At the time of writing, George is five and a half months old and already 26 KG in weight. So, not only, did we not wait, we also broke out other resolutions since he was the biggest of the litter, but also extremely furry and will shed. I intend to add more photos as he get older.

Why George and not, say, not Frisbee or Marley? Well, we first met and chose George on St George's day. It was supposed to be a temporary name, but no one has thought of a better name, so it has stuck and anyway, he looks like a George.
