Signs to the various wine domianes and other places of interest

This is one of the foremost wine regions in the Cote du Rhone area and a visit to the town was a must go. Unfortunately, while it is a pretty village, it is certainly not much fun in the winter off season. It owes its fame to the production of wines and the vast majority of shops, certainly those that were open, are dedicated to selling it.

Another thing struck us during our visit, which we noticed in other towns, is the number of shopping units that are vacant. We noticed this on our most recent to Carpentras, when there was no market, behind which to hide the shops and it was more than obvious here. I wonder if this is the same problem that afflicts the high streets of the UK.

After a quick walk around the village and up to the Chateau, which was built for the second pope to live in Avignon, Pope John XXII, we decided to buy a couple of bottles of wine for meals at home from one of the vintners. After paying, we asked the friendly shop assistant where we could get a coffee. She answered totally deadpan that we could try Carpentras - 1/2 hour drive away.
