The Medieval Bridge in Nyons

Every Thursday morning, there is a market in the Medieval market town of Nyons - another market to cross off our list. We are now beginning to recognise some of the stalls that follow the market circuit daily in neighbouring villages such as Vaison la Romaine on Tuesday, Nyons on Thursday, Carpentras on Friday and Isle sur Sorgue on Sunday. The following site lists the markets.

The market is split between 3 open locations all within a short walking distance of eachother. The largest is in the newer part of town around the fountain and the Place de la Liberation selling mainly clothing, hardware, in one part and meat and fish in the car park behind the Tourism office. Moving up towards the old town walls, another car park is given up to cooked food, bread, fruit and veg. Finally, through a small gate, we emerge into the small old main town square, with stalls selling cheeses, bread, pastries and flowers.

Weighed down with groceries, we walked through the town until we came out close to the Medieval bridge where we did not much enjoy a pizza and salad at a small restaurant/bar nearby.

Nyons is a picturesque town. It is quiet at this time of year, with many shops and restaurants closed. One shop advised that they would reopen for Easter. In the Summer, it will likely be very busy.

A pair of old heavy doors, which used to have carved noble crests. Perhaps vandalised during the French Revolution?
