Le Chat - Bordeaux

Our stay in Bordeaux coincided with an exhibition of twenty large bronze statues of the ‘Le Chat’, installed on one bank of the River Garonne. These made me smile, so I decided to include a few of them here.

For those not familiar with Le Chat, it was a Belgian daily comic strip, created by Philippe Geluck and published weekly in the newspaper Le Soir from March 1983 until March 2013 and in several books. These cartoons have also been published in many countries, with translations of several books into English, by Casterman, publishers of the Tin Tin books.

The humour comes from a play on words and ridiculous interpretations of historical events.

Tin Tin: Can I have your autograph?
Le Chat: With pleasure - what is your name?

Rodin chose the easy route with the Thinker, but Geluck raised the bar higher with his Talker

I am not sure that anyone could get away with this in the UK
